Revision Jaw Augmentation

Revision Surgery is the procedure to correct or change the results of a prior jaw enhancement procedure.  Reasons may include any one or a combinations of the following:

• implants too large

• implants too small

• asymmetry (uneven)

• need a neck lift or other procedure

• change of implant type

• implant displacement

• implant extrusion

• infection

• placement in general

• implant removal

• scar problems (keloid, hypertrophic)

Many times your original surgeon can correct any of the above, although for severe problems which you think may be the fault of the surgeon, it may be best to seek another opinion.  

Insurance Issues
Insurance usually does not cover any of the above except for extreme cases (i.e. necrosis).   Although all policies will be different, so be sure to review your own policy.  However, for cases where there is slight to debilitating pain, removal is usually covered.

Surgeon Fees Or Operating Room Costs
PLEASE determine this issue before your primary surgery, and get it in writing if you can.  If you are reading this after the fact, you may wish to call your surgeon and discuss revision fees.  More than likely you will pay your own medication costs and when a hospital OR setting is used by the surgeon, you more than likely will have to pay for this fee as well; plus your anesthesiologist's fees.
